Did Somebody Say Gumbo?

Did Somebody Say Gumbo?

We heard that there will be gumbo in Historic Downtown Richmond on Saturday, May 19, and we are so there! If you love gumbo too, then come out for the Morton Mason's 5th Annual Gumbo & Chili Cookoff from noon to 6 p.m.

Teams of cooks will be putting their best gumbo, chili, rice and dessert recipes to the taste test during the free event taking place at 211 Morton Street. In addition to the live cook-off, attendees will enjoy a "Cruise In" car show, Historic Richmond hayride, live music, craft vendors and a chance to meet the Houston Rockets and Houston Dynamo street teams. RadioKaty will be broadcasting all day and there will be games and prizes for the kids.

The popular Gumbo & Chili Cookoff is put on by Morton Masonic Lodge #72, and proceeds benefit Behind the Badge Charities and the Morton Preservation Society. Behind the Badge Charities support 2,500 Fort Bend County first responders and their families.

If you’ve got a recipe for a mean chili or a great gumbo, there is still time to register your team! The entry fee is $125. Desserts can be entered for $25. First responder entrants are free. You also can register to take part in the classic car show or grab a booth to sell your handmade goodies.

It’s going to be a tasty time for everyone! Click here to find out more.
