Harvest Green Blooms with Locally Sourced Art

You may have noticed that “locally sourced” is a theme with Harvest Green. You can’t get much more local than farm-fresh produce grown right on our Village Farm, after all. Now we are going local in another way, with a work of art created right here in our community.

Earlier in May, Harvest Green collaborated with the KCAM Contemporary Art Museum Fort Bend, Travis High School and Youth in Philanthropy to transform a shed at the Village Farm into a work of art.

KCAM artist-in-residence Mark Deleon spent May 5 drawing out a farm-themed design along one side, which can be seen from Harlem Road. Harvest Green residents, students from Travis High School — located in Harvest Green — and the George Foundation’s Youth in Philanthropy program gathered in Harvest Green May 6 to paint the mural. In all, about 25 kids participated.

Deleon will return to paint the roof, and a second mural will be painted on the shed at a later date.

The KCAM Contemporary Art Museum Fort Bend also took part in our Earth Day Extravaganza, which hosted an artist who worked on a display for a wall of The Farmhouse, our beautiful new amenity center.

It’s only the beginning of a beautiful, artistic friendship. Harvest Green is planning further collaborations with the museum so residents can feast their eyes on art as they feast on our fruits and vegetables.
