Celebrate National Agriculture Day at March 25 Farmers Market

Meet the people who work daily to help you feed your family wholesome foods and enjoy the festive atmosphere of a farmers market as Harvest Green celebrates National Agriculture Day on Saturday, March 25.

The festivities take place during the community’s regularly scheduled market, 8 a.m. to noon, at 8939 Harlem Rd, Richmond. In addition to a bountiful selection of fresh produce, Harvest Green Farm Educators will be on hand to engage the public with demonstrations, fun farm facts and family-friendly activities.

The Harvest Green Farmers Market is the perfect venue for the celebration as the atmosphere encourages conversations between producers and customers. Beekeepers, chefs, farmers, a nutritionist and other professionals involved in producing the foods we love will give presentations that further educate market-goers about the food they put into their bodies.

Now in its 44th year, National Agriculture Day marks a nationwide effort to tell the true story of American agriculture and remind citizens that agriculture is a part of all of us. The day is devoted to encouraging Americans to understand how their food and fiber products are produced and help them appreciate the role agriculture plays in providing safe, abundant and affordable products.

Some of the products that will be sold at the March 25 market include eggs, canned goods and more. At 11 a.m., the Village Farm will host a competition to see who can successfully pie a Farm Educator in the face. All activities are free.

The Harvest Green Famers Market takes place every Saturday, rain or shine and features produce grown on the Richmond community’s Village Farm. The farm is just one of the many amenities available to help residents lead a healthy, active lifestyle. The Farmhouse — an expansive recreation complex with a state-of-the-art fitness room, clubhouse, resort pool and lakeside amphitheater — will open in April.
