Healthy Kids Get Up and Go!

Healthy Kids Get Up and Go!

Does you kid have a need for speed? Sign them up to run. If they have a lot of get up and go, sign them up for the Healthy Kids Running Series, Oct. 2-30.

Sponsored by the City of Richmond, the series is designed for children and teens Pre-K through 8th grade. Runs are age-appropriate and take place once a week. Events include the 50- and 75-yard dashes as well as quarter-, half- and 1-mile runs. Children will compete each week to earn points. At the end of the series, those who accumulate the most points in their age group will be awarded trophies. All participants receive a medal at the end of the series.

The registration fee is $40 until Sept. 11 after which the fee is $45. Runs are held at Frost Elementary School, 3306 Skinner Lane. The fee includes race bibs for each week, a runner shirt and sponsor giveaways. You can sign your child up on race day for $50.

In addition to having fun and staying fit, your child will make friends and may develop a lifelong love of running.

You can give your kids a taste of the race during the Outrun Hunger 5K Family Walk & Run at Harvest Green, Saturday, Oct. 1. The kid’s run begins at 9 a.m. There will also be a family run so you can all race together. The 5K race is open to minors. The race fee is $25 until Sept. 2. Register here. In addition to teaching them the importance of exercise, you will be teaching them about giving back to the community as all proceeds benefit the East Fort Bend Human Needs Ministry.
