Introducing James C. Neill Elementary

Fort Bend Independent School District is honoring Texas history with the naming of Elementary School 49 underway now in Harvest Green — James C. Neill Elementary.

James C. Neill was a 19th century soldier and politician credited with firing the first shot of the Texas Revolution using the famed Gonzales "Come and Take It" cannon during an armed conflict with Mexican troops. Neill also served as commander of the Alamo before the ill-fated battle that killed virtually every defender.

The name does provide continuity in the area, joining Harvest Green’s two on-site campuses Bowie Middle and Travis High School, both named after the most prominent Alamo defenders.

Currently, Harvest Green students attend well-regarded Oakland Elementary whose principal will be taking over Neill Elementary when it opens August 2017.

Access to on-site Fort Bend schools is just one of the many advantages of living in Harvest Green. Centered on a community farm, the community gives residents opportunities to purchase fresh produce or grow their own in backyard gardens or at the Village Farm. Residents will soon have access to a resort-style pool, a fitness center and a spacious event lawn when The Farmhouse finishes construction.
