Fort Bend ISD Takes Nominations for New Harvest Green School

Fort Bend ISD Takes Nominations for New Harvest Green School

Elementary School 49, Harvest Green’s new on-site elementary school now under construction, is in need of a name and the public is invited to make suggestions.

The Fort Bend Independent School District broke ground on the school, located on Harlem Road west of Travis High School, in June. It is one of six facilities Fort Bend ISD has invited area residents to propose names for.

Nominations must be submitted electronically via use of an online form. The deadline to submit names is Friday, Sept. 30.

Those wishing to propose a name should provide a one or two paragraph statement of no more than 250 words outlining the reasons why they think the name will be appropriate. Statements should contain biographical and historic data pertaining to the nomination. Schools are usually named for persons or places. A person should have attained some prominence, either locally or nationally, and have made a significant contribution to society. Suggestions for place names should include historical relevance.

Later this fall, a naming committee will be formed for the school to consider the nominations. A naming recommendation will be presented to the Board of Trustees for approval in December.

Harvest Green already has two on-site schools — James Bowie Middle School and Travis High School. Elementary School 49 is slated to open in 2017 — hopefully with a stellar new name.

Harvest Green is an innovative 1,300-acre master-planned community in Richmond. In addition to excellent Fort Bend ISD schools, residents have access to a community farm and are able to rent garden plots to grow their own produce through the community’s Village Farm Club.
