Harvest Green Bridges the Gap Between Farmers and Consumers

As consumers have become more aware and more concerned about where the food on their plate is coming from, they are turning increasingly to small, local farms. These farms are attractive because the produce is fresher and often organic, but they may not be close to suburban areas. A solution to the problem could be communities like Harvest Green, a new Fort Bend County subdivision that brings the farm to the people, according to Michael Sudhalter in a commentary published this summer in the Fort Bend Star. The Johnson Development Corp., community is the first of its kind in Houston, a unique opportunity for farmers to continue farming, while residents reap the rewards in the form of healthy, easily obtainable organic produce.
